So how much did your baby grow?
By now, the baby should have reached 14 ounces (0.4Kg) and about 10 inches (25cm) long.
What’s happening to the baby during this week?
The body of your baby has taken a newborn’s shape, you can see some features in the ultrasound, but the body is still too small. That means that some more development will take place in the upcoming weeks. You might notice that the skin is looking wrinkly and that is absolutely normal since your baby hasn’tentirely gained the final weight it should have.
You will be able to tell the features on your baby’s face, the lips, eyes, eyebrows and eyelids, nose are in place and are much more distinct. But the iris is still lacking the pigments, and the pancreas is still maturing.
How should you plan out this week?
This is the perfect time to start attending childbirth educational classes, they may sound boring or you might too busy, but they are quite helpful, you will be informed on what to expect during labor, and what you will experience exactly. So you won’t stress or panic when you enter your labor. They will teach you how to relax and calm down yourself; you can also make social interaction with other couples and discover more about your motherhood new life.
Try to finish your classes as soon as possible so you will be fully informed of how to react and what to do.
There are a lot of organizations offering this kind of classes; you can either check with your hospital or search online for classes near you
A few tips to make things easier
Of course, you are worried about preterm labor and giving birth in general, and that is entirely normal, stress is expected during this period, and you should know how to handle it. Abdominal pain, dull backaches, cramping and some changes in your vaginal discharge are completely fine and natural. But these can be the symptoms of preterm labor. So it is better to consult your doctor, and he will do a test that will determine what is happening in your body.
This test is based on locating a precise protein called Fetal fibronectin, it is found in the amniotic sac. Typically it should be found before reaching the 22nd week, then it disappears and reappears again in the 38th week.
If the test located this protein in the vaginal secretions between 22th and 38th week, it means that the risks of preterm labor are higher than usual. If the protein is absent, the women probably won’t deliver in the next two weeks. The test is comfortable, and the results come back in a short time.
A few tips for the partner
When your partner gives birth to your child, you will be too busy to have some time for only the two of you. So it is best to profit from this period and plan new interesting things to do. Just have fun and create lovely souvenirs.
