The first couple of weeks into a pregnancy are a bit dodgy – you hope for a pregnancy, but you’re not sure about it. There might be some symptoms, but they can be false, while the pregnancy test is not 100% accurate at 3 weeks pregnant. The real deal occurs in the third week. By this time, you should already know whether or not you’re pregnant. Just like every other stage of your pregnancy, the third week comes with its own set of rules and requirements.
What Happens During 3 Weeks Pregnant
At this point, the sperm is no longer trying to attach to the released egg. Instead, it has already penetrated the egg in one side of the Fallopian tube. The egg is now shut down, meaning that other sperm can no longer fertilize it. Once the implantation is done, nothing can change.
This is when the cell division starts. It goes at a rapid rate and represents the dictating process in your pregnancy. This procedure is referred to as zygote growing. In other words, this is when your baby’s main features are determined. Most importantly, the gender is decided now. Other elements include the hair and eye color.
A child will have about 200 different characteristics. Most of them are achieved throughout the pregnancy. They start once the two sets of nuclei get together. Sure, not everything goes on in one procedure, yet the main features are determined now.

What are symptoms of pregnancy at 3 weeks?
Although the probability is quite low, some women may not experience any symptoms within the first three weeks. Obviously, they wouldn’t be too obvious, but small changes should still be noticeable, such as heavier breasts or random cravings. There’s nothing to worry about if nothing happens though. You’re just lucky – sooner or later, these signs will kick in.
As a general rule of thumb, most women will feel slightly more tired than normal during the third week of pregnancy. It’s still too early to make any major changes in your lifestyle. But sometimes, you’ll feel tired while engaging in regular everyday activities. You’ll feel exhausted and like you haven’t slept in ages. At this time, most specialists recommend laying down and taking a nap.
The reason behind this main sign is the hormonal growth. Certain hormones – particularly progesterone – will increase, as well as the blood. By the end of your pregnancy, the volume of blood in a woman’s body is double. For these reasons, short naps represent a must. Up to 20 minutes will refresh your body and restore your energy. In fact, cat naps represent the main recommendation during the first 3 months.
How to Get Ready
You definitely don’t want to expose your baby to any harmful substances. Keeping it safe depends on adjusting your habits a little. From this point of view, make sure you quit smoking and alcohol. They’re perceived as poison. Stay away from prescription drugs too, especially if they’re not suitable for pregnancy. Mention that to your doctor.
Rest whenever you feel like and have at least 8 hours of sleep overnight. Drink at least 3 liters of water every day and increase the fruit and veg intake. Vitamin from natural sources represents a must.
There’s nothing to worry about if you accidentally smoked or had some alcohol prior to this point. Prior to the third week, the fetus is well protected against such substances.
Physical activity is highly recommended too. If you already go to the gym, you might consider some changes in the future. After all, you won’t be able to perform certain exercises once your belly starts growing. Set some goals and make sure you keep active, whether you run or go to the gym. Being physically active will make the labor and delivery extremely simple. Plus, you’ll recover in no time.
On the other hand, if you’re not the active type, this is the time to make a change. Don’t go for hard workouts, but start lightly with mild exercises, such as meditation and yoga. They will relax your muscles, improve blood circulation and positively impact your mentality.
In the end, the third week is when major things start happening. While it’s not true for all women, this is the week when symptoms become more obvious. Your baby’s getting the main characteristics, while certain aspects of your lifestyle must be worked on. This is the time to quit harmful habits and implement some healthy alternatives.
Simply put, it’s the beginning week. Everything you start and change in this week will have a solid impact on your pregnancy, labor, delivery and recovery.
